Safety Protocols
California Lutheran University will activate enhanced safety protocols at its 2024
commencement, as other organizations do with similar events. Knowing these protocols
will help you plan the extra time you might need to get through security and arrive
at commencement on time.
- Everyone will go through a security screening that will include inspection with a metal-detecting hand wand and bag check.
- Event parking lots will open at 6:30 a.m. View the Commencement maps
- It is strongly recommended that guests driving and parking arrive at least 45 minutes before the start of their ceremony, as time will be needed for parking, walking to the stadium area (gates open at 7:00 am), getting in line, and passing through security screening, and finding seats. We will not delay the ceremony for guests who arrive late or who have not completed the security process.
- Portable restrooms will be in the stadium and will not require exiting the secure area.
- Guests who exit the stadium for any reason will need to go through a re-screening and re-enter through an express lane located at Kingsmen entrance.
- Anyone entering the overflow viewing area in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center will be fully screened by security at the Gilbert entrance.
- All students will be fully screened at the student check in area. Students that exit the Soiland arena will need to go through a re-screening process prior to re-entry.
- Everyone entering the stadium – including faculty and staff – are prohibited from carrying large bags, including camera bags, purses and backpacks. The only permissible bags are clear bags no larger than 12”x12”x 6” and opaque bags without a handle or strap that are smaller than 4.5”x 6.5”.
Permissible plastic bags are available at The Campus Store for $9.95 plus tax or through the Commencement Group stations near the Kingsman and Luther stadium entrances and on the South Campus in front of Pearson Library near the Enormous Luther sculpture.
